A LOCAL surgeon wants to highlight that surgery remains a viable option in Busselton for the community despite the debated absence of a permanent resident surgeon.
Doctor Marcus Ong, who opened his Bunbury clinic in April, is also one of 24 surgeons who operate out of Busselton Hospital.
The Mail previously reported that Busselton resident surgeon Mr Beeley’s wanted to have his appointment replaced.
Mr Beeley has been practicing in Busselton for 38 years and is set to retire in November.
The WA Country Health Service told the Mail that having a sole surgeon would not be a sustainable option for a rapidly growing region.
Mr Ong said he operated in Busselton on a weekly basis with extra treatments being carried out in Bunbury.
He said he shared the community’s view that it was important to receive treatment nearby to save time, money and the possible stress associated with travelling to Perth.
“Busselton provides great operating facilities and excellent world class staff,” he said.
Mr Ong said he was drawn to the South West for its perfect climate and friendly people and wanted to become a vital part of the growing community.
He said his clinic worked hard to accommodate patients with shorter waiting times as well as fitting in appointments early in the morning or late at night.
