A 25-YEAR-OLD Busselton man is preparing to represent Busselton in a very unique way towards the end of the year.
Concrete pump operator by day and beatboxer by night Rhett Tihanyi has been selected to compete in the 2014 Australian Beatboxing Championship which will be held in Melbourne in December.
The event is run by Beatbox Australia, a non-profit organisation which represents the active Australian beatboxing community.
“I started beatboxing eight years ago and was inspired by my cousins, especially my cousin Hayden and one of my friends was also really into it as well,” Mr Tihanyi said.
“I was also really inspired by Joel Turner the beat boxer from Australian Idol in 2003.”
Mr Tihanyi said he was surprised when he found out he had made the top 16 as he wasn’t expecting to get in.
“I suppose I’ll have to practice a lot more than usual now,” he laughed.
He added that he would have to prepare a two to four minute performance for a battle type set up against another beatboxer which would go for around six minutes.
“Getting paid to beat box would be the ultimate dream but I enjoy doing it for fun and to entertain others,” he said.
Mr Tihanyi will perform on December 7 at the Evelyn Hotel in Fitzroy and for more information or tickets visit facebook.com/BeatboxAustralia
