Pigeon racing resumed this week after a week of with multiple races from Wannoo (770kms) and Yanchep (240kms).
Steve ‘Almighty’ King dominated the weekend, winning all three events on offer. The two Wannoo events were both trophy races and King’s top grizzle hen called Grizzelda claimed the prestigious Single Hen category while a blue check hen named King of Queens won the Open Age Derby.
Dav Chapple is starting to crank up his season and claimed a fine second place with a three-year-old blue check pied hen in the derby.
The sprint from Yanchep was much closer but again it was the “Almighty One” who took the chocolates when his top mealy cock bird hit the loft at 11.15 to register a fast 1235 metre per minute velocity.
‘Rotten’ Ron Blackwell posted close second with a blue check hen while the final placing went to Chapple with a blue bar hen, rounding out a great weekend for him.
However, the big news for the weekend was the emergence of young Joe ‘Trumpeter’ Chapple who raced for the first time under his own banner and registered a sixth placing.
