TWO local girls are currently starring in the Bunbury Musical Comedy Group’s latest production - a musical version of The Snow Queen.
Holly Kearns of Busselton, 11, and Brielle Hunt of Dunsborough, 11, have been travelling together to Bunbury for weekly rehearsals, forming a new friendship.
Holly was cast as the lead role of Gerda with Brielle playing a disenchanted tulip in the magic flower garden.
Based on the well-known fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen with music by Edvard Grieg, it tells the story of Gerda's search for her brother who has been spirited away by the Snow Queen.
Her journey leads her through terrifying ordeals as well as encountering talking crows, a magical flower garden, the prince and princess, the wild robber girl and the brave reindeer that carries her across the ice to the Snow Queen's palace.
Gerda finds Karl and her tears melt Karl's frozen heart. They escape the clutches of the Snow Queen and joyfully return to their grandmother.
This musical fantasy for the whole family has a cast of 33 with ages ranging from eight to 60, many of whom are newcomers working with seasoned performers.
The School of Classical and Contemporary Dance will be performing the beautiful Snowflake Ballet.
The next show will be held on Friday night - August 29 at 8pm, with matinees on August 30 and 31 at 2pm.
