IT’s only his first year at the club but Busselton Bombers midfielder Paul Northover has already picked up competition’s top individual award.
Paul ‘Northy’ Northover received the Onshore Cup Fairest and Best award on Saturday night at a ceremony at Clancy’s Fish Pub in Dunsborough.
Northover, who describes himself as an in-and-under midfielder who can also get the ball on the outside, said he was “pretty rapt” to win the award considering he missed a couple of matches during the season.
“I was happy with how I played but I thought missing two games could make it hard to win,” he said.
Although this is just his first season Northover, who previously played with the Busselton Magpies, said he was really enjoying playing with the Bombers after a couple of years out of the game.
“It’s been great – they are a good bunch of blokes and very welcoming,” he said.
He thanked his team mates for their efforts alongside him and had a few special words of praise for Bombers ruckman Dale ‘Daisy’ Andrews.
“Daisy really assisted me in getting as much of the ball as possible,” he said.
Northover has now turned his attention to this weekend’s game against the Dunsborough Mulies with the winner progressing straight to the grand final.
“I’m looking forward to it – it’s the first time both Busselton and Dunsborough will be at full strength for a match against each other this season.”
He said this year was the 25th anniversary of the Busselton Bombers so was encouraging all past players, and other members of the community to come down and support them.
The Busselton Bombers versus Dunsborough Mulies final starts at 5.30pm at Bovell Park.
