AN UNDERMANNED Geographe Bay Seasiders side travelled to Balingup Oval on Sunday to take on Blackwood United with their squad severely depleted by injuries and work commitments.
However, it didn’t have any impact on the result with the unbeaten Seasiders romping to an entertaining 7-3 win.
Despite the large number of goals scored Blackwood proved to be stubborn opposition and battled away with fierce competitiveness during the first half.
Jon Roy put the visitors ahead early on from close range and Denham Harvey added a second after some great play by Chris Godden.
The Seasiders were ahead and looked in control but there were danger signs as they were leaving big gaps in defence which Blackwood looked to exploit.
Chris Godden made it 3-0 after 25 minutes but some awful defending from Geographe saw Blackwood reply instantly and find a way back in to the match.
And, then 10 minutes before the break Blackwood got a second goal. Geographe should have cleared their lines but weren’t able to and got punished from the edge of the area with a well taken finish.
The half ended 3-2 with Seasiders coach John Sullivan not amused by proceedings as his team headed to the sheds for the break.
After a few stern words at halftime Geographe came out in the second half looking much more assured and they slowly took the game away from Blackwood with some top-drawer football.
Chris Godden added his second goal and Denham Harvey got another as Blackwood struggled with the Seasiders pace and movement up front. Then Rhys Stockley made it six before Blackwood again took advantage of average defending to pull one back.
Jon Roy had the last word as Geographe ran out worthy winners 7-3 however, Blackwood more than played its part in a game which had plenty of action at both ends.
Geographe are now looking to its final three league games knowing that two more wins will bring it the first piece of silverware in the club’s five year existence.
