The Dunsborough Towners’ hopes of snatching a mid table finish to the 2014 season increased with a solid 3-0 victory over struggling Eaton-Dardanup in their Premier League encounter at Eaton on Sunday.
The Towners went into the game without three key players in Chris Blackburn, Niall Malone and Johnny Walsh but they made light of the omissions.
In fact one of the replacements, 16 year old Harry Carol, proved an inspirational presence in the midfield.
While Eaton had their moments it was not enough to overcome a strong performance from returning goalkeeper James Cross.
On the other hand the Towners carved out a stream of chances that should have seen them well in command by half time.
All they had to show for their dominance was an 18th minute goal from a passage of neat team work with Ruben Gelmi playing a wall pass for Michael Raper to bury a fierce drive into the far bottom corner of the net.
It was more of the same in the second half with winger Kaden Heathcote, The Dunsborough Bakery player of the match, adding to his season’s tally with two crucial goals.
The first came in the 52nd minute when he accepted a perfect cross from Phil Turtle to head home and in the 72nd minute his sweeping acute angle cross from the wing crossed the goal line before Raper managed to get a touch
Coach Mark Gelmi once again had difficulty in finding a man of the match with Phil Turtle, Anthony Livanos, Redar Saber, Ethan Delatte and Raper all in the mix along with Heathcote.
The Towners will need all those players at their best and more when they face the league leaders Bunbury United at the Dunsborough Playing Fields on Sunday.
In the reserves a spectacular flying header from Craig Agar added to a goal that Heathcote scored earlier in the game to provide the Towners with 2-1 victory. Brent Hillyard was named the The Growers Wine player of the match.
Eaton-Dardanup gained something from the day beating Dunsborough 5-0 in the Women’s Premier league clash.
