EVEN a cold couldn’t stop Busselton’s officer-in-charge taking one for the team on Friday afternoon when he braved the Ice Bucket Challenge.
Senior Sergeant Steve Principe completed the challenge alongside his son James and South West District Inspector Geoff Stewart at the Busselton police station.
The officers were nominated by Margaret River’s officer-in-charge Sergeant Brett Cassidy on Tuesday after taking part himself as well as South West District Office Inspector Kim Hutchinson.
The challenge raises awareness for Motor Neuron Disease, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS.
Motor Neurone Disease attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord leading to muscle weakness and waste.
“I would like to nominate three local gentlemen,” Senior Sergeant Principe said.
“One of which could do with some cold water on his head as he seems to spend a lot of time being in hot water, so cold water will make a nice change for him."
Senior Sergeant Principe nominated Vasse MLA Troy Buswell, the City of Busselton’s Deputy Mayor Grant Henley and Busselton-Dunsborough Times journalist Tom Edwards,
Inspector Geoff Stewart nominated the Department of Fire and Emergency Services’ Danny Mosconi, Andy Thompson and Andy Wright.
