TWO Busselton hairdressers are back from a life changing trip in the Philippines.
Natalie Paterson and Andrea D’Abrea from Salon Express took part in the Schwarzkopf Professional’s Shaping Futures initiative.
The initiative gives disadvantaged people the skills and support they need to escape hardship, unlock potential and improve their chances in life.
The initiative partnered with the SOS Children’s Villages, which is the world’s largest orphan and abandoned children’s non profit organisation.
Ms Paterson and Ms D’Abrea said they spent their days at an orphanage teaching students hairdressing skills.
The students learnt about consultation, cutting, styling and dressing and progressed with great speed.
Ms Paterson said it was hard to express how the experience had changed her as it was such an emotional thing to do.
“You always hear people say “appreciate what you have” but I feel like you will never truly appreciate what you have until you have done something like this,” she said.
Ms D’Abrea said it was an amazing experience and would recommend it to every hairdresser.
