VASSE MLA Troy Buswell has resigned after a controversial career in politics.
It has been reported Mr Buswell handed his resignation letter to speaker of the Legislative Assembly Michael Sutherland on Wednesday morning and informed Premier Colin Barnett of his decision in the afternoon.
Mr Buswell said public life and managing his mental illness was too hard to balance and that he had lost his passion for the job.
He said that continuing on without this desire would not be in the best interest of the government or the State Liberal Party.
The news of Mr Buswell's resignation comes six months after he was forced to step down as treasurer after he had his license suspended when he allegedly left a wedding intoxicated and crashed into a series of cars on the way home.
This was not the first time Mr Buswell has been in the headlines for the wrong reasons.
In 2008 Mr Buswell was alleged to have snapped the back of a female Labor party staffer's bra-strap as a party trick at while later that year he admitted to allegations that he sniffed the chair of a female Liberal staffer while pretending to groan and writh in sexual pleasure.
In 2010 it was revealed that Mr Buswell and then Greens MP Adele Carles had been engaged in an affair and he gave a public statement confirming this and that he had inappropriately used a ministerial car and a government credit card to pay for accommodation for himself and Ms Carles.
Premier Colin Barnett demanded Mr Buswell's resignation from the cabinet at that point although he continued for the member for Vasse.
Mr Buswell was cleared of any misuse of public entitlements following a report in to these allegations in June that year but Mr Buswell remained on the back bench until December when he was re-appointed to the ministry as Minister for Transport and Minister for Housing.
While the member for Vasse received flowing support from his electorate following these incidents and was voted back in to office in the 2013 State Election.
His constituents are now faced with a by-election to choose a new member. The electorate of Vasse has traditionally been a safe Liberal seat.
