A FANTASTIC visual display of local flora will be taking place next week at the 89th Busselton Wildflower Exhibition.
From Thursday September 18 to Friday September 19, locals can experience the beauty of bushland Australia for themselves at the Kent Street Uniting Church.
A fully operational overshot wooden water wheel will be the spectacular centrepiece of the exhibition and will be sold by silent auction.
Exhibitions volunteer Ross Stanbury and creator of the wheel said the piece highlighted elements of living in the South West.
“The water wheel will be the focal point of the display and will remind visitors of the importance of water conservation in our dry climate”, Mr Stanbury said.
Mr Stanbury said hundreds of tourists visited the exhibition annually, eager to see the great diversity of south western wildflowers in the one venue.
This year promises a variety of delicate orchids native to the district, as well as many lesser known rare plants.
The official launch will occur at 2pm on the Thursday, with guest speaker Tammie Reid and the Vasse Primary School Choir opening the event.
Offering tea, lunches, craft cakes and local produce organiser Barry Oates said there would be something for everyone with another outstanding display.
“There will be a wood turning demonstration, experts to answer questions and plenty of interesting things to buy,” he said.
Beanies, wildflower videos, photographic displays and the Geographe Community nursery will be some of many items on display over the two days.
Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for pensioners and children are free.
The Exhibition runs Thursday, 9am-6pm and Friday 9am-5pm.
