FOUR local primary schools have combined over two days to create a 120 strong choir.
Students from Margaret River, Cowaramup, Dunsborough and Vasse Primary met on September 4 at Wharncliffe Mill campsite to rehearse and stage a four part event at each of the schools.
Spending all day rehearsing and then the night together at the campsite saw the group come together as one, led by Margaret River choir director Ruth Boyd for the proceedings.
The camp was the first time any of the children had heard their practised songs in full, as each of the schools were taught separate parts and separate instrumentations for each song so when combined, the result would be outstanding.
On the Friday the choir group visited each of the four schools, constructing and deconstructing a stage to perform on at each venue to fit all 120 participants while they performed.
“We visited all four schools and were back at our own schools in time to catch normal buses home in the afternoon,” said Vasse Primary music teacher Karen Bigwood,
“It was an enormous logistical feat and the kids were so full of energy and enthusiasm it was inspiring and enormous amounts of fun.”
Organised by teachers from all four schools, the special event has been running every second year since 2002.
