THE City of Busselton council has been asked to approve a new dog management policy to be released for public comment.
The policy outlines where people can and cannot have their dogs in public places.
It follows a public consultation process which occurred in 2012.
Since then state government laws have changed and city are now required to update its policy.
The policy included breaking the coastline from Forrest Beach to Bunker Bay into 33 different permitted zones for dogs.
The zones are catagorised as seasonal, exercise, and prohibited.
Seasonal means dogs are permitted off the leash except during the time period of 9am to 5pm from December 1 to April 30.
Exercise means dogs are permitted including off-leash at all times except when approved organised events are taking place, wherein dogs are prohibited.
Prohibited means dogs are not allowed at all timed in those areas.
There is also modified seasonal as a zone which means dogs are permitted in the same way as an exercise area except between August 1 to April 30 inclusive, when they are permitted at all times but on a leash.
If council approve the recommendation the policy will go out for public comment and if it is approved there will be a 12 month trial.
