LOCAL running enthusiast Matty Trent is coordinating a community park run in Busselton on November 8.
The run is Australia’s 99th registered Parkrun and aims to encourage the regular coming together of people to walk or run a set course and make new friends while enjoying the outdoors.
The City of Busselton has provided financial support to assist with the launch of Parkrun and several city councillors, including Mayor Ian Stubbs, intend to register and join in on the inaugural event.
“I’ll be walking the course and I hope to see as many people down there as possible,” Mayor Stubbs said.
“I also congratulate Matty Trent and those who have worked hard to bring this great initiative to Busselton.
The social and health benefits are enormous and the city is pleased to be associated with it.”
The weekly runs are manned by volunteers on a rotational basis and the event is open to people of all ages and abilities although children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.
Prams, dogs on leads are also welcome however bikes, scooters, skateboards and rollerblades are not permitted.
The run will start at the car park area east of the Busselton Volunteer Marine Rescue building on Geographe Bay Road.
