Furnaces announced himself as Godolphin's new glamour colt when he smashed a field of two-year-olds by 6 ¼ lengths on debut at Rosehill on Saturday.
Already earmarked as the racing giant's best early-season juvenile, Furnaces toyed with the field to win the Primo Moraitis Plate (1100m) from Mine Two with Larrikan Prince a further 2 ½ lengths back in third.
"They don't come much better than that," jockey Tye Angland said.
Assistant trainer Darren Beadman wasn't surprised with the result after what the John O'Shea-trained colt showed the stable at home.
"He's very impressive and he was a natural from day one. He was at the top of the tree for us," Beadman said.
"We were confident [coming into the race]. When he came here he took it all in his stride as if he'd been here before so it's a big plus when they've got a good attitude and are professional. He did show that in the trial.
"I didn't expect him to kick on like he did in the last 100 metres though because he did do a little bit of work early, so it was good."
The Exceed And Excel colt was sent out a $1.40 favourite on track following a three-length barrier trial win.
After working early to find the rail, he settled well in front before kicking clear shortly after the home turn as the punters began to count their money.
"As soon as he got his head in front of the other horses he just switched off and that's why I had to really scrub him to find the rail which I thought would have been a big advantage for him," Angland said.
"He switched off more than anything. He was more so waiting for them at the turn and as soon as I squeezed him he knew what to do.
"Once we got to the rail he just pricked his ears. I thought he went easy enough within himself and the race was over as soon as I gave him a squeeze."
O'Shea, who was watching from Mooney Valley, indicated that Furnaces would head to Flemington for a two-year-old race over the carnival.
Angland took into account the dominance of Furnaces' win and the class he beat to declare the colt would be a force down south.
"He's definitely an early season two-year-old and I think that race shows it," Angland said.
"I didn't think he was going to kick clear by that far and 6 ¼ lengths is a big margin so he's a nice horse and he gave me a really nice feel.
"Was it a strong field? Yeah, I think the second horse was unlucky last time and it's come out and ran another big race so he'll be very hard to beat in the early two-year-old days."
Hall of Famer Beadman was reluctant to make any bold predictions on the colt but could not wipe the smile off his face knowing it's just the tip of the iceberg as the two-year-olds begin to roll out during the new season.
"We've got a lot of smoking guns back there and you've got to take them as they come, two-year-olds, and he was right up there," Beadman said.
Meanwhile, Jim Cassidy was forced to stop riding after the fourth race at Rosehill after succumbing to a knee injury suffered when he hit a gate at Geelong last Wednesday.
Chief steward Ray Murrihy said Cassidy left the track sore and would have to get a clearance to ride on Wednesday after sustaining ligament problems.
"All he can do is ice it up and take anti-inflammatories," Murrihy said.
