RESIDENTS are advised to avoid parking ‘by habit’ and observe changes to signage to avoid receiving a parking infringement in Busselton City Centre.
The parking times will be changing in early November and will simplify car parking time restrictions by reducing instances of time changes part-way along street blocks and on opposite sides of the same street.
This confusing situation is particularly evident on Prince Street at present.
The changes are being introduced after extensive monitoring and a review of existing car parking trends and facilities in the CBD area.
The changes are part of ongoing improvements to ensure access parking for both short and long stay users.
A clearer layout of time restrictions will also be provided in the car park north of the Busselton Library, with a north/south division of all day and two hour restricted parking.
A new 30 minute time restriction will apply to parking bays on Queen Street between Prince Street and Duchess Street.
Overall, the number of bays available for all day parking will increase through changes on Stanley Street and Albert Street.
Other improvements include the introduction of dedicated Parking Officers to undertake enforcement and monitoring of car parking in the Busselton City Centre; proposed reconfiguration of and improvement to special purpose parking bays (including ACROD parking) to occur over 2015; and the acquisition of land to provide for car parking supply in Busselton in the long term.
While changes to signage and line marking are being implemented the city will allow a two week amnesty for parking areas affected by the changes.
Within these areas, the city’s Parking Officers will be issuing warning tickets to remind patrons to observe the newly signposted changes.
