WA’s second last drive-in outdoor cinema officially re-opened this month for a summer of retro and classic movie screenings.
Busselton Drive-In Outdoor Cinema co-owner Ron Jones said they reopened on Saturday November 1 despite initially not planning to re-open until December.
The South West landmark which has been running for 53 years is currently being re-zoned to make way for residential development.
“The re-zoning is taking longer than expected,” he said.
“So at a time when the drive-ins are at the end of their era we thought we would run with retro classics, and where possible – Aussie films from the 80s and 90s.”
Mr Jones said the Busselton venue was the only outdoor cinema in Australia still screening film as all the others have gone digital.
Films such as Babe, Jaws, Jurassic Park and The Matrix are just a few of the classics on offer.
“It will be a nostalgic trip for me,” Mr Jones said.
“I’m going to enjoy screening them again.
“It will be a real experience for people to see a movie presented on film.”
Mr Jones said the car boot sales would also re-commence starting this Sunday and would run once a month throughout summer.
