MORE than 400 people packed onto the Busselton foreshore for the first Light the Night event on Saturday.
The Leukaemia Foundation state manager Andrew York was in attendance and joined Vasse MLA Libby Mettam in opening the event.
People bought gold lanterns to remember a loved one, white for their own journey and blue to support others.
Money rose from the barbecue and hope wall went to the Leukaemia Foundation.
Event organiser Dawn Blanchard spoke about her family’s story of losing their cousin Penny to blood cancer.
Mrs Blanchard dedicated the walk on the night to Penny and talked about the importance of raising money for blood cancer research, “in the hope that one day, everyone can be cured”.
Mrs Blanchard also thanked the night’s biggest sponsor, Leeuwin Civil who bought 100 lanterns which lit up the Busselton Jetty.
Music was also provided by band Laterhorse.
