A lightning strike on a charter aircraft put two passengers in hospital, as widespread storms on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning delivered more rain than the entire December monthly average in 24 November hours.
There were also reports of a tornado in Gingin, which ripped the roofs off houses and destroyed crops.
The Skippers Aviation flight had just left Perth with 50 passengers when it was hit by lightning just before 5.30pm on Wednesday and was forced to return.
It landed safely and two male passengers were taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment. One has since been discharged and the other was listed as being in a stable condition.
A Skippers spokesman said it wasn't clear whether the men had sustained injuries but they might have suffered a huge fright.
"It's normal practice to come back home," the spokesman said.
"Our pilots will always err on the safe side."
The Bureau of Meteorology recorded 11.4 millimetres of rain up to 9am Thursday at its Perth Metro weather station.
The figure was almost half the November monthly average rainfall of 23.8 millimeters, and more than the December monthly average of 10.4 millimetres.
The storm produced some spectacular lightning strikes and also proved the instigator and eventual saviour in the case of dangerous fires near Gingin.
For a period late on Wednesday, the fires - started by lightning - were a genuine threat to lives and homes.
But the rain that arrived with the storm eased the situation heading into Wednesday night.
But it was too late for a house and a shed in Wanerie, on Bennies Rd, which were destroyed, leaving a damage bill of about $300,000.
A DFES spokesman said a man was rescued from the blaze, suffering burns and smoke inhalation.
He was given oxygen and taken to Joondalup Hospital.

The showers and storms are expected to ease through Thursday, although there remains a chance of gusty winds, hail and heavy rain possible about the Hills in the afternoon.
There is a maximum temperature forecast of 30 on Thursday.
Meanwhile, sea water flowed into a mine pit on an island off the Kimberley coast after a wall gave way.
High tides around the pit at the Mount Gibson Iron Koolan Island mine caused sea water to spill over a damaged section of the seawall.
The wall first gave way in October, Department of Mines and Petroleum environment division boss Dr Phil Gorey said.
"Workers and equipment were removed from the pit following the initial pit wall failure to allow geotechnical engineers to assess the damage and repairs to commence," he said.
High tides have connected the mine pit to the ocean prompting a multi-agency co-ordinated environmental protection response.
Safety inspectors and engineers are also investigating the wall failure.
