MORE than 25 members and friends of the Busselton Swimming Club had a chance to learn about open water swimming.
The Club hosted accomplished open water swimmer Paul Laver who put the swimmers, aged from as young as seven, through their paces.
Laver has won the Rottnest Channel Swim three times taking the solo title this year after winning as part of a duo and a team in previous years.
He spent most of the day with the young swimmers teaching them technique at the Geographe Leisure Centre and exploring the theory of open water swimming.
The group then moved to the Busselton foreshore where they worked on practical skills and finished with an open water swim.
Head Coach Mark Taylor was impressed with how many club members were interested in branching out beyond the pool and by how quickly the club members took to swimming in the ocean.
He also thanked the Busselton Surf Club for making the clinic possible by keeping an eye on his young swimmers while they were in the water.
Club member Tessa Viljoen completed a five kilometer swim at the Swimming WA Open Water Series at City Beach last week.
The club is expecting to see more members take up the challenge of open water swimming leading up the Busselton Jetty Swim in February 2015.
