ST MARY’S continued their recent strong vein of form when they easily accounted for Dunsborough in the Busselton Margaret River Cricket Association A grade competition last Saturday.
On winning the toss, Dunsborough captain Aaron Mott elected to bat and although not loosing early wickets, the visitors found runs hard to come by.
Strong opening bowling spells from St Mary’s Danny Hatton(1/10) and Ben Mattock(0/35) who bowled ten over spells were crucial according to captain Ben Lloyd.
“Our openers bowled well and were really tight, we stuck to our plans. Chris Massey who came on after drinks was crucial helped restrict their total,” Lloyd said.
Dunsborough were eventually bowled out in the final over of the innings for 173 with Mott conceding the total was less than he had hoped.
In reply, St Mary’s were never troubled passing the score with the loss of only one wicket and went on to post 4/253 off their 50overs.
Opener Mark Ford top scored with 86 and Lloyd was also amongst the runs with 83.
The man of the match was awarded to Chris Massey who’s 5/46 off eight overs set up the win. Lloyd felt his side had come together well after early season disruption due to rain and byes but noted that his side would relish this Saturday’s bye after playing three games in two weeks.
Dunsborough’s captain Aaron Mott felt his side was “outplayed all day” but was looking forward to bouncing back strongly this Saturday when his side takes on ladder leader Yobs in Dunsborough.
Elsewhere in BMRCA, unbeaten Dunsborough suffered their first loss for the season when outplayed by Vasse in B grade, whilst in C grade Augusta maintained their unbeaten run with a solid win over St Marys’s.
The 2014/15 season is again proving to be a season for batsman with another two centuries scored last weekend.
Yobs A grade captain Nayton Colombera made it two centuries in his last two games when he finished 105no against Cowaramup, whilst John Spillsbury also scored a century when he hit 114 for Nannup in their C grade clash against Margaret River.
