The catch-and-kill order placed on a great white shark detected in Warnbro Sound several times in a few weeks has been revoked.
Fisheries officers spent the past three days deploying and monitoring baited drum lines in the area in an attempt to catch the shark which they deemed a "threat to public safety".
A statement from the department said "following a significant reduction in the rate of detections of the high hazard shark within Warnbro Sound, Department of Fisheries Acting Director General, Dr Rick Fletcher has rescinded the catch order".
"This action is consistent with the state government's guidelines for the take of sharks posing a serious threat to public safety," the statement read.
"This high risk shark had been frequenting the Warnbro Sound area irregularly since late November.
"An increase in the level of detections during daylight hours on consecutive days last week prompted the additional capture response to be undertaken. With the frequency of daytime detections having reduced over the past few days, the risk level has today been reviewed."
Warnbro Beach will be reopened on Monday afternoon.
Water users are urged to continue to take precautions when using beaches and keep informed on beach closures and shark detections.
The shark, which is tagged as part of the West Australian government funded shark monitoring network has been detected in Warnbro Sound 63 times in the past week, including on of the past three days since Fisheries officers have been attempting to catch the animal.
Any shark sightings can be reported to Water Police on 9442 8600.
