ATHLETES in the Busselton area have the chance to take their sporting to the next level with the Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme.
Applications for round two of the Royalties for Regions funding offers financial assistance to athletes aged between 13 and 21 and offset costs associated with travel, accommodation and competition at regional, state, national or international level.
South West MLC Colin Holt said the scheme continued to nurture talented young athletes in the regions, giving them a leg up when it came to pursuing their sporting dreams.
“This scheme is part of the Supporting Community Sport policy that The Nationals Western Australia committed to in 2013,” he said.
“Royalties for Regions is providing $1.75 million over four years specifically to assist regional athletes succeed in reaching their sporting dreams.
“I encourage any eligible athlete to pursue the opportunity for financial support by applying for an ATSS grant online or through their local Department of Sport and Recreation office.”
According to Mr Holt more than 1000 aspiring athletes statewide have benefited from the grants.
Successful applicants have represented a broad range of sporting codes, from AFL and netball to water polo, BMX, rowing, basketball, surfing and equestrian.
Last year, 12 grants were awarded in the Busselton area.
Round two applications are open until January 23 and cover eligible travel dates between September 15, 2014 and April 15.
