A Bussleton swimmer collected a swag of medals after an incredible performance at the recent WA Country Swimming Championships.
Fourteen-year-old Cara Viljoen capped off an outstanding competition being named best-at-meet.
Cara won six medals including four gold medals.
The WA Country Swimming Championships saw the best country swimmers from Broome through to Esperance compete.
The championships were held over three days at HBF Stadium in Perth.
Cara won gold in the 50 metre and 100 metre breaststroke, 50 metre and 200 metre butterfly, while competing in the100 metre butterfly, 200 metre individual medley (won bronze medal), 400 metre individual medley (won bronze medal), 800 metre freestyle and 200 metre breastroke.
The talented swimmer only began swimming competitively about two-and-a-half years ago.
Cara said she was overwhelmed, although proud of her achievements and thanked her family, coaches and Busselton Swimming Club for their support.
She said she had found a great passion for swimming through her time as a junior lifesaver.
“I was hoping I’d do well in the competition but I was really surprised to come away with so many good results,” Cara said.
“Since I have been at Busselton Swimming Club I have really improved – it is a great club with great coaches.”
Cara will now set her sights on the upcoming state championships, and said she was excited for the challenge ahead and looking forward to competing against the best swimmers in WA.
