POLICE resources in Busselton are back on the agenda with the police minister Liza Harvey visiting to discuss a 24/7 police service.
In October Busselton police Senior Sergeant Steve Principe said six more officers would help “fill the gaps” to achieve 24-hour police patrols.
Vasse MP Libby Mettam invited the minister to discuss local policing issues including the investment in a drug detection dog.
Ms Mettam said a dog would be a valuable boost in the fight against illegal drug manufacturing.
“Crimes relating to methamphetamine use are an issue I take very seriously as it has an impact on so many areas of the community, as well as government agencies and services,” she said.
“I have discussed this with my colleague the member for Bunbury John Castrilli who shares my interest in such an investment in our police resources.”
Senior Sergeant Principe said police had been asking for a drug detection dog for a while.
“It would be kept quite busy considering numerous search warrants are executed,” he said.
Busselton police station has executed up to 60 search warrants this year.
“And that’s just one station, you can imagine what the figures would look like if you combined Bunbury, Australind and Collie,” he said.
Police minister Liza Harvey will visit Busselton on March 31.
