CAPE Naturaliste College students experienced a new culture when they travelled to Vietnam last November.
As part of the World Challenge students and teachers spent three weeks on a community project based near Hue.
The expedition offered students the chance to reap the benefits of hard work on conservation projects while living and working alongside local people.
As the new school year begins the students are looking forward to chatting about their journey and how they hope to use the knowledge and skills acquired.
World Challenge allows schools to choose from over 50 destinations world-wide.
Community projects are a major focus of the expeditions, with teams from World Challenge globally working on over 275 project sites in developing countries every year.
Last year, these teams helped to renovate over 130 school classrooms, established 25 new community vegetable gardens and assisted on over 20 projects dedicated to the conservation of endangered species.
The World Challenge program has students engaged in planning their team’s itinerary and raising funds for their expedition months in advance.
The result is the expeditions come at no monetary cost to the school, but return enormous benefits as students learn about taking initiative, project planning and budgeting skills.
