The Busselton Tennis Club’s Retro Men’s Team Competition hit off on Thursday with The Kinks downing The Troggs six sets to two.
The Kinks team is made up of Doug Hutchison, Peter Etherington, Max Cussons and Frank Marsh.
Cussons and Marsh won the match of the day in a tie-breaker over Brian Stewart and Erik Schmidt 6-5 (7/3).
In the second match-up Hermans Hermits easily accounted for the hapless Animals six to two with Tony Crolla undefeated while Rob Lennox and Bernie Masters were also strong contributors posting three wins each.
Jeremy Williams and Les Cousins saved some face for The Animals winning there Fast 4 Format set against Kevin Merifield and Bernie Masters 4-3 (5/4).
The two undefeated teams will oppose each other in Round two.
The Retro Tennis competition will run up until Easter and then rollover into a more informal scroungers season for the remainder of Autumn.
Nominations are now being invited for the Club’s Championship Events starting with the singles on March 15, followed by the Doubles tournaments in following weeks.
The clubs two social tennis sessions are open to visitors and new members with play commencing from 9.30am on Wednesdays and 2pm on Saturdays.
