BUSSELTON Regional Airport is set to receive a grant to help refresh its master plan.
South West Nationals member Colin Holt announced on Wednesday that the Regional Airports Development Scheme would provide $21,615 to the airport plan.
They would also receive $15,744 to prepare a Airport Asset Management Plan.
City of Busselton chief executive officer Mike Archer said since the plan was finalised in 2011 significant planning and implementation had been done.
“The funding will allow the master plan to reflect the works undertaken as part of the ‘stage 1b’ upgrade, including; car park extension, terminal expansion and associated airside access points, new apron facility, upgrade and extension to the aeneral Aviation taxi way, helipad construction, and jet fuel facility and associated internal road works,” he said.
“The master plan will also outline the requirements resulting from the finalisation of the business case presented to state government for funding.”
Mr Holt said the scope of works for projects ranged from improving airport access and safety to boosting operations, security and planning capacity.
“I’m particularly pleased that Busselton Airport will undergo improvements over this phase of the RADS program,” he said.
“Air access to remote and regional WA is crucial to keeping our state well connected, all the while improving regional air safety and services for those in the aviation industry and beyond.”
Mr Archer said updating the master plan would add value to the business case which the state government currently had.
“If the decision to expand the airport is a positive announcement by the State Government, it will be reflected in the master plan review,” he said.
