Queensland opener Joe Burns said he wouldn't be getting down in the dumps over his Test squad omission.
Burns made his Test debut in last year's Boxing DayTest, called in to replace an injured Mitchell Marsh and finished with twin half-centuries in January's SCG Test against India but was overlooked for Australia's winter West Indies and Ashes tours in favour of 35-year-old Adam Voges.
Chairman of selectors, Rod Marsh, said on Tuesday that Voges' mountainous 1358 at an average of 104.46 proved too hard to ignore and Burns said he wouldn't be dwelling on the decision.
"Sometimes tough calls are made and 50-50 calls can go against you but you can't get too down about it," he said.
"You have to focus on what's important and the things that you need to continually keep doing to keep performing.
"I think I'm not going to get too caught up in getting down in the dumps about it."
The Queensland opener took a long-term view to the decision, though he said he was obviously disappointed.
"I think it's natural to be disappointed when you get left out of the Australian cricket team," he said.
"It's a great team to be a part of and I guess that's why it hurts not to get the chance to play."
Burns was named as part of the Australia A squad to tour India, in what will be his first time on the sub-continent and said the tour would be vital for his long-term aspirations.
"I want to play for the next decade for Australia and I think being able to perform on the sub-continent is going to play a big part in that," he said.
"So I think this tour will act as a great learning curve for the skills I want to develop."
That experience is something that Marsh pointed to as an opportunity for Burns to improve.
The 25-year-old was Queensland's leading run scorer through the Sheffield Shield season with 793 runs at an average of 53,27 and said he wouldn't be making any rash changes to his game.
"I had a good season and I was making runs across all forms right throughout the year so I take confidence in that," he said.
"I don't think I need to go away and change too much.
"I just need to do more of it and keep developing the little areas of my game. That's the confidence I do take from the whole situation."
With Test opener Chris Rogers set to retire after July's Ashes series, Burns will likely be in contention for a return to the Australian side.
Burns said all he could really do was follow Voges' lead and score enough runs to force the selectors to pick him.
"If you're making runs you're going to get selected, it's as simple as that," he said.
The Australia A tour of India, captained by Queensland's Usman Khawaja, consists of a four-day and one-day squad, playing two four-day matches and five one-day matches.
Burns has been included in both squads, while his Queensland teammate Chris Lynn is in the one-day squad.
Fast bowler Ryan Harris was the only Queensland representative to make the Test squad but will miss the West Indies tour due to the birth of his first child.
