ENVIRONMENTAL officers have interviewed a person in relation to the dumping of concrete into Yallingup Brook.
An investigation began in December last after Yallingup residents reported a truck dumping concrete into the brook on Valley Road.
A spokesperson for the Department of Environment and Regulation said enough physical evidence had been obtained from a number of witness statements.
“The investigation is almost complete and the evidence will be assessed and a decision made in accordance with DER’s Enforcement and Prosecution Policy (2013),” the spokesperson said.
The DER spokesperson told the Mail last year illegal dumping was a criminal offence with maximum penalties of up to $125,000.
“The person responsible may also be liable for costs and have responsibility for the clean-up,” the spokesperson said.
Yallingup Brook is an environmentally sensitive area managed by the City of Busselton.
