THE newly landscaped Port Geographe foreshore is now open for the public to enjoy.
Transport minister Dean Nalder was in Busselton on Wednesday to open the $28.15 million project.
The project saw the reconfiguration of the coast structures as well as updated foreshores.
“Residents and visitors can now enjoy the new pathways, meeting place and toilets near the new western breakwater and beach area,” Mr Nalder said.
There is still work taking place on the eastern side of the marina entrance channel as the centrepiece of the Port Geographe foreshore landscaping takes shape.
This will see the creation of a boardwalk linking a new picnic area to a sheltered swimming lagoon.
The Minister said the new recreational area was a welcome addition for Busselton and thanked local residents for their input into the design.
Mr Nalder said the early performance of the new coastal structures at Port Geographe had been encouraging.
However, coastal adjustments and normal variations in winter weather patterns meant it would be several winters before the effectiveness of the changes could be properly measured.
“As winter approaches, the Department of Transport will closely monitor the response of the natural environment to the new streamlined rock structures to help guide future management options,” he said.
