YALLINGUP’S Eliza Green hopes to achieve her goal of surfing alongside world champions Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning and Stephanie Gilmore at this year’s Drug Aware Margaret River Pro.
The teenager will first have to beat other talented WA surfers at the trials on April 14.
“If I receive a wildcard entry into the Margaret River Pro, it will be my third time surfing the event,” she said.
“I was 14 when I received my first wildcard. I was the youngest competing, and was surfing against girls who were quite a bit older than me.”
Eliza, and her 20 year-old sister Mikaela have recently returned home after surfing in China and New Zealand with the World Qualifying Series Tour.
“I love competing with my sister, we both travel together and support each other. We’re really close,” says Eliza.
“I think compared to other competitions such as the one I’ve just come back from in New Zealand, Surfers Point pushes you as an individual the most.
“It’s such a hectic surf spot because it’s so powerful. I still gets butterflies in my stomach when a set comes.”
The Drug Aware Margaret River Pro Trials will be held on April 14 at Surfer’s Point, Prevelly. From the event, the top scoring male and top scoring female will earn a wildcard entry into the 2015 Drug Aware Margaret River Pro, where they will join the world's top ranked male and female surfers.
The Drug Aware Margaret River Pro is one of 11 events that make up the Championship Tour, and will be held from April 15 until April 26. Over 12 days, surfers will compete on the days producing the best conditions.
