One of the Queensland subjects of Alan Jones's on-air ire says he is not fazed about the shock-jock's impending arrival on Brisbane's airways.
John Wagner, who along with his family built and owned the Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport near of Toowoomba, has come under sustained criticism during Jones's 2GB breakfast program in Sydney.
Jones, who grew up near Oakey, has been a vocal critic of the airport, particularly its fast-tracked construction he said circumvented approval processes.
In a series of on-air tirades, Jones has claimed the airport was approved without due consideration of environmental impacts and community complaints and was also a threat to the nearby Army Aviation Centre at Oakey.
Jones called for a royal commission into the airport, which he has claimed was part of a secret push to further expand coal seam gas in southern Queensland.
When asked what he thought about Jones widening his Queensland market, Mr Wagner was dismissive.
"I couldn't give a rip, actually," he said.
"He's a loudmouth who's entitled to his say, but he does get the truth mixed up with a good story.
"I think certainly the people of Toowoomba are just sick of listening to him and they've been turning off in droves."
Jones has also had a one-hour broadcast syndicated on Toowoomba radio station 4GR.
Mr Wagner said he did not expect Brisbane West Wellcamp to be a big feature of Jones's breakfast show on 4BC.
"It's all old news," he said.
"He doesn't talk about us in Sydney any more, he only talks about us on a special segment on 4GR.
"We haven't heard about him in ages, but he's always got something to whinge about."
Mr Wagner said he had "no idea" if the decision to syndicate Jones's program on 4BC made sound business sense.
"I'm not that close to radio, but I certainly won't be listening to him," he said.
Jones will be heard on 4BC at breakfast, following a merger of the parent companies of 2GB, the Macquarie Radio Network, and 4BC, Fairfax Radio, a subsidiary of Fairfax Media, the publisher of this website.
The merger resulted in some high-profile losses at the Cannon Hill-based station, including presenters Patrick Condren, Ian Skippen and general manager Anthony Frangi.
The already stretched newsroom has remained unaffected, unlike its counterpart at Sydney's 2UE.
Jones's broadcasts on 4BC during the election campaign, widely considered a test run ahead of the merger, resulted in defamation suits being launched by former premier Campbell Newman and some other members of his government.
That case has not yet been settled.
Comment was sought from Jones, who was on leave from 2GB.
