THE Mandurah Magic’s undefeated run has ended, following a four-point loss to the Cockburn Cougars on Sunday.
The Magic won seven consecutive games before falling to the Cougars, 57-61.
It could have been a different story as the Magic were within a point with just four minutes remaining but West Coast Waves star Deanna Smith was clutch at the free throw line late in the game, finishing with eight free-throws from 10 attempts.
Emma Klasztorny hit a three-pointer with just four seconds to go but it was not enough for the women to get up.
The Magic led for most of the first quarter but Cockburn (4-5) soon took the lead towards the end of the term with the margin staying at around the five-point mark for most of the game.
Casey Mihovilovich, Shelly Boston and Kate Sidebottom all hit 12 points for the Magic.
Mihovilovich didn’t have her usual output which was partly due to her shooting four from 24 from the field including one from nine from outside three.
The Magic did have something to smile about from the weekend with a 70-67 win over the Eagles – who have now lost all eight games this season.
Although the Mandurah Magic has won the equal-most amount of games, the side has dropped to third on the ladder because the two teams above them – Rockingham and Willetton – have better win/loss percentages.
The Magic will be hoping to end their losing streak at one game when they travel to Rockingham to take on the Flames on Saturday.
