THE Salvation Army’s 2015 Red Shield Appeal kicked off in Busselton on April 20 with a donation from Peter Farrar and Associates.
Peter Farrar said he was pleased to open the Red Shield Appeal by donation and would encourage other businesses to get involved.
“I saw an article about the Red Shield Appeal and was able to do an opening for them,” he said.
The Red Shield Appeal is held during the last two weeks of May with money raised used to support the Salvation Army’s services across Australia.
The services assist people with financial difficulties, drug and alcohol addiction, family violence and homelessness.
In Busselton, the Salvation Army have built relationships with people who have experienced homelessness.
The Salvation Army said people who were homeless need more than a place to live, they also need to feel part of a community and have an opportunity to contribute.
Claire Watson, a Captain from the Busselton Salvation Army, expressed her appreciation for the donation and to Vasse MP Libby Mettam who is this year’s Chairperson for Busselton.
Ms Mettam will coordinate a team of five door knockers to do a two hour shift during the Red Shield Appeal on May 30 and 31.
Anyone who is interested in volunteering for the Red Shield Appeal should contact Tim or Claire Watson from the Salvation Army on 9754 2733.
