IN the lead up to the Anzac centenary Busselton received a special visit from Australian and New Zealand Defence Force members.
The visit is part of the Defence Netball tournament which sees the Australian and New Zealanders battle it out on the court.
Throughout the tournament they have travel through regional WA to promote the game as well as women in the defence force.
The two teams held a clinic in Busselton on April 20 and Australian captain Jessica Luiciani said the community really got on board.
“It’s great for us to be able to promote the relationship we have with the New Zealand Defence Force as well commemorate the Anzac centenary,” she said.
She said during World War I the soldiers would play sport on their rest days and the tradition had continued.
“By playing sport it has kept the spirit of the Anzacs going,” she said.
The teams will also be going to Albany to play a game as well as going to the top of Mount Claremont for an informal tribute.
The rivalry between the countries remain with New Zealand leading the tournament ranking four wins to three.
However, Australia is feeling confident after winning the last tournament in 2012.
