FORMER Fremantle Docker, Essendon Bomber and Peel Thunder forward Scott Gumbleton made his debut for the Mandurah Mustangs in the Peel Football League (PFL) in their loss to South Mandurah on the weekend.
South Mandurah continued their impressive early-season form with a 17.15 (117) to 11.2 (68) win over Mandurah.
Gumbleton played his first game for the Mustangs kicking two goals while Blair Bell, Kristoffer Povey and Samuel Hart all booted three goals for the Falcons while Brad Holmes and Matthew McMahen kicked two each.
Aaron Hitchcock was named the Falcons best while Jay Walton and Craig Stewart (four goals) all starred for the Mustangs.
Mandurah trailed by just eight points at quarter time, but then South Mandurah ran away in the second quarter, kicking five goals to two.
Mandurah then won the third quarter, kicking four goals to three, but the Falcons skipped away again with five in the final term.
The Falcons now sit just percentage off Halls Head on the ladder with both sides winning their first three games and sit on 12 points each.
Mandurah (1-2) sit second-last and has scored the second-lowest amount of points in the competition behind third-placed Waroona.
Round four of the PFL also saw Pinjarra register their first win, Halls Head continue its winning streaks and Waroona claim an easy victory.
At Sir Ross McLarty Oval, a 12-goal second half helped Pinjarra (1-2) get an easy 79-point victory over Centrals.
Jacob Williams booted four goals for Pinjarra while Luke Guthrie was named best on ground as Pinjarra rounded out 18.14 (122) to 6.7 (43) winners.
Pinjarra were the dominant team early, but inaccurate kicking meant Centrals were still in the game, trailing by just seven points at the first change.
Pinjarra continued to extend their lead in the second and third quarters until they broke the Central defence and kicked seven goals to two in the final quarter.
Mackenzie O’Brien kicked three for the Tigers while Braddon Kazakoff kicked two.
Centrals are now sitting at the bottom of the ladder and are the only team yet to register a win in the competition after three rounds.
Waroona continued their strong form with an impressive 41-point victory over Rockingham at Anniversary Park.
Benjiman Matthews-Herald was named best for the Demons (2-1) while Alan Wilson booted four goals and Alfred Anji and Eli Smith kicked two each in the 13.6 (84) to 6.7 (43). Rohan McHugh was named best for the Rams while Michael Ochoa and Daniel Hatched both booted two goals.
Rockingham (1-2) led at the first change by just two points with both sides kicking only a goal each.
Waroona then skipped away in the second and third term kicking eight goals to two.
Despite some inaccurate kicking, Halls Head remains top of the ladder following a 16-point win over the Baldivis Brumbies (1-2) at Harcourts Mandurah Stadium and claimed the Anzac Centenary Trophy.
The Anzac Spirit Medal for best on ground was o tie between Halls Head’s Mark Re and Baldivis’ Bradley Palipauminni.
Halls Head kicked 8.17 (65) to Baldivis 7.7 (49) and would have won by more if it wasn’t for their inaccurate kicking in the first three quarters.
At three quarter time, Halls Head register just 3.12 on the scoreboard to Baldivis 5.7 and it looked set for an upset.
However, Halls Head kicked 5.5 to Baldivis’ two goals to finish 16-point winners.
In the Reserves, Pinjarra defeated Centrals by 143 points, South Mandurah was too good for Mandurah, Baldivis had a comfortable win over Halls Head and Waroona defeated Rockingham.
In the Colts, Pinjarra were too strong for Centrals, South Mandurah defeated Mandurah, Halls Head accounted for Baldivis and Waroona defeated Rockingham in a tight contest.
Next weekend will see Waroona and Halls Head play on Saturday, while on Sunday, Baldivis hosts Rockingham, South Mandurah takes on Pinjarra and Centrals are at home to Mandurah.
