THE Dunsborough Ducks hosted the Leschenault Crabs under lights on Friday night to open the Masters Super Rules Season.
It was a glorious autumn evening down at the Duck Pond as the all conquering Ducks looked to continue their unbeaten streak which stretched back to the end of 2013.
The Crabs brought their best team along and at the first bounce looked to take ascendency.
Mark Flynn in the ruck was having none of that as his tap work continually found a duck and Rosco, Telstra Troy and Baz Collins took full advantage, delivering into the forward line time and again.
Goals followed as Moose Stone, Copes and Novak hit the scoreboard with polish.
The second term was more of the same as the wings Ben Bintang and Junkyard Ballarine started to make an impact.
They could do no wrong as they swept down the ground, beautiful ball use and strong hands being hallmarks of their play.
Once again, the forwards reaped the benefits as all three Bakers on the ground kicked majors to increase the pressure on the Crabs. It was a flawless half from the Dunsborough team and they went into the big break with heads held high, although that may have been from trying to get some oxygen back into the lungs.
The second half saw the Crabs come out swinging and finally there was some work for the Dunsborough backs to do. President Philthy and Ned Kelly were up to the challenge though as they repelled wave after wave of crab attack and were ably assisted by Dougy Doug and Slim. Bubbles Hanley was playing his usual role across half back, sweeping up the mess and more often then not using Tank Matthews as a link into the forward line. Russ looked handy in the middle and Two Dogs Hargraves was also racking up big numbers as the Ducks hammered their advantage home.
The game finished as it started with a final push from the Crabs and once again the defenders stood tall. Moose Stone kept presenting all night and Baz Collins use of the ball was spot on in his first game back after a season away. Both were deserving of the coaches awards, although the whole Dunsborough Ducks team deserved accolades for their strong performance.
The two teams then enjoyed presentations and a gourmet sausage sizzle washed down with a soft drink or two. Many thanks to the lovely Duckettes for providing the meal and helping out on the night.
The Dunsborough Ducks team face a fresh challenge on Friday away to Waroona.
