THE City of Busselton hopes to start construction work on the new Civic Administration Building after asking council to approve an expression of interest process for builders.
City councillors last year approved the design for a new $20 million Civic Administration Building.
Council went back to the original idea for the building after discussions to include a performing arts centre were knocked back at a council meeting a few months earlier.
At the time City of Busselton mayor Ian Stubbs said the council still hoped to build the performing arts centre in the Cultural Precinct at the end of Queen Street, near the beach and jetty.
The City of Busselton councillors have been asked to accept the motion which will allow chief executive Mike Archer to decide on a builder who meets the selection criteria at their meeting on May 13.
If the absolute majority of council vote in favour for the recommendation a state wide public notice will be advertised with a closing date of June 2015.
City of Busselton director of finance and corporate services Matthew Smith said the scope of the project was considered both significant and challenging as it was a large multi-facetted construction project.
“The value of construction is in excess of $18 million and includes the demolition of the current City of Busselton building except the existing two storey elected member section which will be renovated and integrated within the new buildings,” Mr Smith said.
The construction will also boast a new three storey east wing section along Causeway Road.
As well as a two storey west wing section which will replace the existing single storey structure along Southern Drive.
