THE students in room 17 at Singleton Primary School were rewarded for their artistic talent after winning a prize at the Castaways Sculpture Awards.
The competition involves making sculptures out of recyclable material with Singleton winning the primary school section with Flock of Birds, sculptures created with a variety of recycled plastic materials collected by students.
The students from room 17 made bird sculptures.
As the sculptures were going to be put on the Rockingham foreshore, the first thing they thought of was birds.
Ms Stewart said the students used a variety of recycled plastic bottles, straws, bottle tops, desalination membrane, an old tarp, metal forks, plastic tablecloths and milk bottles.
Due to the students showing artistic flair, Singleton Primary School teacher Rebecca Stewart decided the outside wall of her demountable needed some more colour, so she enlisted the help of the students and other teachers to make it look special.
So, Ms Stewart, along with her room 17 students painted the wall in jungle colours.
The students painted the wall with a lion, giraffe and many other jungle creatures.
Ms Stewart said the students were very proud of their efforts
“It allows them to express themselves and puts ownership on the classroom,” she said.
