THE new terminal at the Busselton Regional Airport has been hailed a “fantastic facility” as the City of Busselton celebrate its opening on Monday May 18.
The project saw 500 square metres turned into an arrival and departure gate for 140 passengers.
City of Busselton mayor Ian Stubbs said the project was critical to Busselton Regional Airport’s master plan which will see interstate and eventually international flights.
The $1.5 million project was five years in the making but only six months of construction.
Parliamentary secretary to the transport minister Jim Chown said it was a credit to the city for being able to have such a fantastic finished product for that price.
It was funding by all levels of government.
State MP Shane Love was at the official opening on behalf of regional development minister Terry Redman and said the airport would play a vital role in the growth of tourism in the South West.
Mr Love also said the expansion project has been identified as a priority by the South West Development Commission and was “hopeful” there would be a positive announcement in the near future.
The Busselton Regional Airport expansion was granted funding by the federal and state governments in the 2015-16 budgets which were announced last week.
