ANTI-theft number plate screws will be fitted on Busselton vehicles as part of a campaign to reduce the rate of stealing.
Busselton police Senior Sergeant Steve Principe said 33 vehicles in the city had their number plates stolen last year and a total of 13 had been hit so far this year.
“Stolen number plates are often reattached to vehicles used in petrol theft and robberies, so if criminals are unable to access stolen plates they may think twice about committing these crimes,” he said.
Busselton Police will conduct the fitting for free at Bunnings Busselton on Saturday June 13 from 10am to 2pm.
The one-way screws can easily be fitted with a standard flat head screwdriver but cannot be removed with one, making the number plate difficult to steal.
Police will also be available to talk about crime prevention strategies in your area.
The event follows on from a successful fitting of anti-theft screws in Bunbury.
