THE hunt for abandoned trolleys in Busselton has gone hi-tech with resident Simon Evans’ plan to see the world through a drone’s perspective.
Every two years the Woolworths trolley collector makes goals as part of the National Disability Insurance Scheme My Way program.
This year he decided to choose a goal which benefited the community.
Mr Evans said he when he saw a radio controlled racing drone for the first time on You Tube he decided he would like to get one of his own and use it at a s a spotter for abandoned trolleys.
“Trolleys are stolen and dumped in various locations around the city making it an eye sore for community members,” Mr Evans said.
Before Mr Evans purchases his first drone he will take lessons on how to fly them.
“Every second weekend I spend six hours going to Dardanup to learn how to fly a remote control quad copter,” he said.
Mr Evans said he would like to buy a drone with a first person view camera fitted and goggles so he could spot abandoned trolleys in the city.
“My instructor built his own drone and eventually I would like to have a go but at the moment I’m happy learning how to fly them,” he said.
