UNTIL Thursday artist Bree Ramirez couldn’t see the colours she used in her paintings or of flowers or grass and many other things people sometimes take for granted.
Ms Ramirez is colour blind and many of the paints she used were often grey and dull to her but it never stopped her from creating bright and colourful paintings.
Yesterday a pair of special glasses arrived in the mail from the US which are designed to help colour blind people see colours in UV light.
Ms Ramirez went with her boyfriend and family to bushland in Bunker Bay preparing for the worst and doubting whether the glasses would actually work.
Her boyfriend Jarrad Mcguire filmed the event to show Ms Ramirez seeing colours for the first time.
“Wow, wow,” she said when the glasses took effect.
Ms Ramirez said she didn’t realise there were flowers on the walk to Bunker Bay and on her return could see red flowers everywhere.
Her mum Robyn Ramirez said it was amazing she saw purple and red for the first time.
After seeing the vibrant colours in the bush Ms Ramirez visited Bunnings to check out all the colourful flowers on display.
Her mum said it was the best Bunning’s experience ever.
Yesterday Ms Ramirez saw her paintings in colour for the first time.
She said she knew she used colour because she could read the paint name on the tin, but never realised she used so much colour.
“I knew there was green in the paintings but it was just grey and dull to me,” she said.
“It just makes everything more vibrant I can’t wait to see a rainbow.”
