ONE of the oldest mulberry trees in the South West came under threat when vandals poured poison on the Old Stone Cottage grounds in Vasse.
Old Stone Cottage part owner Chris Felvus said he left the building at 4.30pm on Sunday and returned Wednesday morning to a "malicious mess".
He said garden ornaments and the contents of his shed poisons had been thrown around the lawns but nothing was stolen.
“My biggest concern is the amount of poison thrown on the roots of the mulberry tree,” Mr Felvus said
“It’s a beautiful old tree and I just hope this malicious behaviour hasn’t killed it.”
After cleaning the area Mr Felvus filled half of his wheelie bin with empty poison and fertiliser containers.
He said teapots with plants growing in them and garden ornaments had been smashed against other trees and tape had been stuck to the outside of the building.
“We have owned the business for a year and this is the first time vandals have attacked,” he said.
"I just hope it doesn't happen again."
Busselton police senior sergeant Steve Principe said if anybody had any information to contact police on 9754 9555.
