A STROKE support group for survivors, their carers and families is coming to Busselton in August.
The Neurological Council of WA will run the support group to provide a safe, supportive environment to share experiences, coping strategies and receive information and education from trained nurses.
The Neurological Council of WA’s engagement coordinator Amy Hosking said life after a stroke can be challenging,
“Many people find it reassuring and uplifting to talk with others who have had a similar experience,” she said.
The support group will also be a chance for people who have survived a stroke to ask questions and get some social interaction.
Community neurological nurse Eileen Murray said it can be reassuring and uplifting to come across other people who have shared similar problems and experiences.
“We saw a need in Busselton for stroke survivors to have more support once they had been discharged form hospital,” she said.
“It’s a get together of like minded people there will be special speakers advising what resources are available out there.”
The stroke support group will meet every second Monday of the month from 10am to 11.30am starting August 10 at Cape Care Day Centre in Busselton.
