THE City of Busselton has warned skate boarders to stay away from the new skate park until it is completed.
Project manager Paul Crewe said construction was at a critical point it is important for people to stay away from the area.
“We are about to seal and paint the top surface. If children skate, scooter or even walk on the surfaces from here in, it will permanently damage the finish,” he said.
We know there’s a great deal of excitement about the park and children are keen to use it, but we just need them to hold out a bit longer.”
City of Busselton deputy mayor Grant Henley said planning was underway for a free event at the new skate park which is set to take place in October/November.
“In conjunction with Convic, the park designers, we are looking at hosting a series of skate competitions. There will be a sausage sizzle, music, give-aways and a range of other fun activities catering to families and kids of all ages,” he said.
The new skate park will feature one of WA’s biggest skate bowl measuring at 18 metres long, 10 metres wide and three metres deep.
There will also be a smaller bowl for learners measuring at 1.2 metres deep.
There will be close to 90 metres of free-flow street skating space has been installed in the park and, once finished, will provide a series of built in challenges like kerbing, parking block ledges, skate rails and a smaller quarter pipe.
Completion is on schedule for October / November.
