Nautical Lady demolished in Busselton | video, photos

THERE were mixed emotions down at the Busselton foreshore on Tuesday afternoon as crowds gathered to watch the final hours of the Nautical Lady Tower.

Picton Civil spent seven hours demolishing the tower.

Busselton City Council voted unanimously to demolish the Nautical Lady Tower despite more than 2,500 signatures and 100 plus submissions opposing its demolition.

Early last year the council approved plans for a microbrewery on the city’s foreshore, despite public opposition.

The location of the microbrewery will be the crown land at the rear of the existing Nautical Lady Lighthouse Tower which is adjacent to the Busselton Jetty.

Heritage listing for the Nautical Lady Tower was knocked back by the Heritage Council.

The City of Busselton was notified by the heritage office on June 19 that while the place may have some cultural heritage significance, it did not meet the threshold of significance to Western Australia’s cultural heritage.
