AN OUTSTANDING performance by a Busselton man has seen him take out several awards at the 2014-15 Formula 500 season.
Cameron McKenzie, 20, won the Chief Stewards Award, Hard Charger for the most cars passed in feature races and Rookie of the Year for scoring a season best finish of fourth place at this year’s awards night.
Mckenzie also came home sixth in the Perth Motorplex Track Championship and sixth in the West Coast Series.
He said he was quite humbled to be announced as the Rookie of the Year.
“The win was totally unexpected and I really enjoyed the competition this year,” McKenzie said.
With a love for speed McKenzie started racing Go-Karts at nine, and then moved on to a wingless sprint car and now a formula 500.
He said he had big plans for next year with a possible venture to the eastern states.
“I want to race Australia wide next season in the hope of furthering my racing career,” he said.
McKenzie received the awards at the Forrest Reception Centre in Perth on June 20.
