Over the past few weekends the Busselton Netball Association Development Teams have competed in the 2015 Regional Carnivals with sides from all over the South West region coming together to compete in a day of netball.
The day’s consisted of shortened matches, played for ladder points and no finals, so each match was played with finals intensity.
Sunday August 9, Donnybrook hosted the 14-15 aged carnival.
Busselton took three sides over and the 14’s division 1 side went undefeated throughout the day and won the division.
The other teams, 15’s and 14’s division 2 also played hard and had a great time.
Over the day the Busselton 14’s division 1 played Eaton, Bunbury, Leschenault and Donnybrook.
Coach Mary Everuss said it was a solid team effort across the matches.
“I was also pleased that they not only won but finished without injuries,” she said.
The 14’s division 2 coached by Jess Read had a solid day with some wins and some losses but as a team grew from the experience and each play continued to improve as the day went on.
Anita Skelton, coach of the 15’s said “Even though the girls only won one out of five games, I’m very proud of their efforts and attitudes”.
The 11’s Friendlies Carnival was hosted by Bunbury.
For the Busselton players this was an introduction into the development program with the carnival being "friendly" and no scoring.
Both Coaches Courtney Webb and Sarah Banks said the girls put into practice what they had learnt and were looking forward to seeing the girls develop next year.
On Sunday Busselton was host to the 12’s regional carnival and was played in pristine weather conditions.
This carnival welcomed teams from Bunbury, Eaton, Donnybrook, Leschenault, Pinjarra, Waroona, Manjimup, Bridgetown and Margaret River.
The Busselton division 1 team coached by Tam Fish finished in first position and throughout the day gained strength and wins across all teams besides a tight clash with Manjimup which ended in a draw.
Coach Simone Newman of the 12’s division 2 team was proud of her team of girls who showed consistent skills and worked hard individually to finish undefeated and earn the teams place on top of the ladder.
This Sunday, Leschenault will be host to the 13’s regional carnival where we wish the Busselton side the very best of luck for the carnival.
This set of regional carnivals marked the end of the 2015 Busselton Netball Association Development representative sides.
The BNA has been proud of the way our Busselton sides have represented themselves throughout the season and has been great to see young women displaying their skill and upholding the spirit of the game.
